About This Guide

Who wrote this, why it exists, and how I keep the lights on.

Who Wrote This

This guide was written by Dan Fries. I've helped dozens of people migrate password managers over the years—friends, family, clients—and I've seen what goes wrong and what makes the process smooth.

I'm not a security researcher. I don't work for any password manager company. I've just done this migration process enough times to know what goes wrong and how to prevent it.

I wrote this guide because I kept explaining the same things over and over. Now I can point people here.

Why This Site Exists

Most password manager content online falls into three categories:

  1. Vendor marketing — "We're the most secure, trust us"
  2. Affiliate review sites — "Top 10 password managers ranked" (written to sell, not help)
  3. Technical documentation — Helpful but assumes you already know what you're doing

None of these help someone who has just decided to switch and is anxious about losing their passwords. That's the gap this site fills.

This guide is:

Affiliate Disclosure

This site contains affiliate links. When you click a link to a password manager and sign up, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

How I Make Recommendations

Recommendations on this site are based on suitability for specific situations:

If a product fits your situation, I'll suggest it—regardless of whether I have an affiliate relationship with them.

What I Don't Do

Editorial Independence

This site is independently operated. No password manager company has editorial input or approval over my content.

If a company I partner with does something problematic, I'll update my recommendations. My loyalty is to readers, not advertisers.
